May in the Garden
Looking back at the garden photos I took at the end of March for the April blog post, it’s incredible to see how much the garden has changed. The Tulips are in full bloom as is the Orange blossom, Cherry Tree, Apple Trees and the Camassias. The leaves have filled out bare spaces between plants, weaving the different varieties together like a cushioning tapestry that makes the garden feel so inviting. The large elderberry has a broad canopy over our small garden that makes it feel sheltered, enclosed and private. The Wisteria that wraps around the studio window is just about to come into full bloom, we have set up the small bistro dining set underneath it so we can have tea next to it’s blossoms when the scent is most enjoyable, which is early morning or evening.
We have been busy working in your gardens with our team, weeding, pruning and tidying your gardens with the recent flurry of new growth that has come from the very warm April with some heavy showers.
This month we will be working on:
Weeding to keep on top of fast growing weeds
Trimming edges, to keep the flower beds and path edges neat and sharp
Pruning spring flowering shrubs - Forsythia, Pyracanthus, Cistus, Deutzia, Hydrangeas, Buddlejas, Hibiscus, Spiraea japonica, Choysia, Lonicera Evergreen.
Cuting back Phlomis to new growth and Silver wattle, Sage, Pentstemon and Santolina
We will be working to keep hedge lines tidy and cutting back any sporadic growth
With the recent dry weather we will also be watering the garden and pots as the weather has been unseasonably dry
We will also be planting. We are very excited to have a number of planting jobs this month and can’t wait to see how the new plants in your gardens flourish.
Hope you have a lovely May and enjoy your flourishing gardens, the team at Mackintosh Martin Gardening.
