March in the Garden

Happy beginning of March. An exciting month in the garden with new shoots from trees, shrubs and from the ground popping up everywhere you look. Giving a real sense of hope for the months ahead. Daffodils, irises, crocus and the first of the tulip species will all begin to flower.

This is the perfect time for us to be working in your gardens, clearing beds and planting new trees, shrubs and flowers for you to enjoy in the coming seasons.

Jobs we will be completing in your garden in March:

  • Pruning and dead heading your Mop head, Lace head and Paniculata Hydrangeas. Now that the weather in milder it is time to prepare these garden staple plants for their upcoming floral display.

  • Mowing lawns on dry days with a high cutting setting

  • Mulching beds and bare soil. This improves your soil quality, suppresses weed and helps to keep the water out as well as sealing it in. We can order mulch in for your garden, it is especially important to help support young trees, shurbs and. perennials.

  • Planting bare root plants into the soil, the last month to do this before Spring

  • Rose Pruning, we will be pruning both bush and shrub roses.

  • Cutting back old seed heads for new growth to appear on plants

  • Continued weeding

  • Planting new perennials and preparing annuals

We look forward to working on your Gardens this March, The team at Mackintosh Martin Gardening
