March is wonderful month for gardening and a productive one too. As the days get longer and the temperature warms up many plants are jumping in to action, buds, bulbs and new leaves are beginning to appear.
Sussex has had a gorgeous sunny weekend to welcome in the new month and we can’t wait to start developing your gardens for you to enjoy in this finer weather.
What we will be busy working on in your gardens month:
Weeding - We will be working to keep on top of weeds before they become established with the increase in temperature.
Rose Pruning - Pruning your bush and shrub roses. Roses love and thrive from pruning, we will be removing dead, damaged, diseased and crossing branches, encouraging an open, healthy and strong base to support abundant flowers this summer.
General Pruning - this month is the time to dead head and prune Hydrangeas, Buddleja Davidii, Penstemon, Phygelius, Winter flowering deciduous Viburnum, Cotinus, Deciduous grasses, Forsythia and Hebes.
Other jobs we will be getting on with: Mulching, tying back climbers, moving plants and planting new ones, dividing perennials that may of become over crowded, mowing when the conditions allow and cutting down old growth and dead seed heads ready fore the new growth to appear.
