September in the Garden

The evenings are beginning to draw in, the air is becoming cooler and it is definitly starting to feel as though we are on the cusp of the new season.

Now is a great time to start thinking about spring bulbs and what you would like to appear in your garden when the winter season begins to end. If you would like bulbs, do let us know, our supplier will have these available around mid September.

Jobs we will be completing this September:

  • Dividing herbaceous perennials, a good time to divide up plants such as Hostas, Sedums (Hylotelpheums), clump forming iries, hardy geraniums, astillbes, verbena etc.

  • Clearing lawns and beginning to leaf blow as leaves start to drop

  • Collecting your orders for Spring Bulbs ready for Autumn planting

  • Dead heading roses

  • Pruning: Hedges, Birch, herbaceous perennials

  • Continuing to weed and tidy beds

  • Sedums - now Hylotelephium are beautiful at this time of year

  • Fennel

  • Penstemons

  • Agapanthus

  • Japanese Anenomes
